a dream come true

As a young boy I always wanted to go watch Ireland play international rugby, this dream followed me in to my teens and then in to adulthood.  Yesterday my dad and me made the trip to Dublin to watch Ireland take on the mighty All Blacks.  Unfortunately the sterling defence and penetrating attack of New Zealand proved to big a task for the home side who at times looked like a bunch of school boys being taught a lesson in the fine art of rugby. Final score 22-3 in favour of New Zealand.  For me the scoreline was irrelevant although an Irish win would have been nice.  As I stood in Croke Park singing ‘Irelands Call’ i had a tear in my eye and thought life is amazing. I was in Dublin, with my dad, watching Ireland play the best rugby team in the world, great seats, amazing atmosphere. A real dream come true 🙂

evan-almighty1Tonight at engage we had a dvd night, which meant that we all got to hang out and eat lots of rubbish.  The film of choice was ‘Evan Almighty’.  Morgan Freeman plays the part of God in the film and has called Evan Baxter to be a modern day Noah and asks him to build a boat.  There is a piece of dialogue in the film where Evan asks God how can he change the world and God replies “one act of random kindness at a time”
So let me put the challenege out there
What Act of Random Kindness are you gonna do today that will help change the world?

Birthday Girl

November 11, 2008 at 1:21 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

hp1My youngest daughter, the baby of our family little miss Aoife-Mo celebrates her 5th birthday today. It’s been the most amazing five years so far and our family is incredibly blessed as a result of Aoife being a part of it. She has the most amazing sense of humour, a beautiful smile and for the best part is a real joy to be around.
This morning my wife asked Aoife “how does it feel to be five?” To which she replied “I am really, really happy” and in the next breath she said “then i will be six, then seven then eight, then nine and then ten”
So what can we learn from Aoife’s words. I believe there are two things.
1. The importance of being happy with whatever stage of life we are at. Wherever you are in life right now is wherever you are. Accept it, love it, embrace it.

2. The importance of vision. We all need to know where we are going in life, a sense of direction, an idea or concept that we can work towards or strive to achieve.   Vision is a clear mental picture of what could be, fuelled by the conviction that it should be.  With clear vision dreams become reality 🙂

Have a great day

stress-head1 November 5th is National Stress Awareness Day
Stress is a term used to describe the feeling created by an emotional or physical threat, whether real or imagined. Stress often manifests itself both physically and emotionally with symptoms including headaches, accelerated heart rate, exhaustion, irritability, insomnia, indigestion, loss of concentration and sensitivity to criticism. For many people stress is an everyday occurrence, and something they simply have to deal with to get through the working week. I’m sure at some point in time stress is something that we all have to deal with, wether it be financial worries, relationship problems, work or whatever else that could be going on in your life at any given time.
If you are feeling the pressures of life today and stress is getting you down, I hope you can find comfort in this verse from The Message – 1 Corinthians 10:13 ” all you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

Love you
Tim

tragedy

if you had to analyse your relationship with Jesus what would it say about you?

if you are anything like me it would probably point to your own selfish needs and what you can get out of the relationship, deep down inside at some level we all suffer from the classic  ‘me me me’ syndrome.  at some point we all fall into the selfish christian pattern of seeking what Jesus can do for us rather than just seeking Jesus.

i believe that one of the greatest tragedies that we can find in the bible is the life of Judas, the tragedy being that he was so close to Jesus yet he never really got to know him, he was too busy looking for a way to gain something for himself.

if we are to become more like Jesus we need to get away from the selfish  ‘me me me ‘ attitude and focus more on Jesus himself.  we need to make the shift from being self centered to Christ centered.  spending time with Jesus and discovering more of who he is will help us to not only to discover more of who we are  but it will also help us to understand more of his love, his character and his personality. it will help us to see the world as he sees it and give us a different perspective on the our world and the people in it.

I encourage you today to take some time to get to know Jesus better

have a great day 🙂

Radcliffe wins New York marathon

Paula Radcliffe bounced back to form by winning the New York marathon for the third time.

Radcliffe clocked a time of two hours 23 minutes and 55 seconds, more than seven minutes slower than her world record.

Radcliffe finished two minutes ahead of the forty-year-old Russian Ludmila Petrova, who held off a strong finish by the American Kara Goucher to finish second.

Only the legendary Grete Waitz has won the New York marathon more times than Radcliffe, but she is unlikely to match Waitz’s record of nine victories.

Radcliffe said: “To win three is really special to me. To even be one third of the way towards the mark Grete Waitz achieved is amazing.

“New York is just a place I love to come but it was different this year. The last two times it was really close at the end but it was nice to make it a little bit easier on my husband and help him stay more relaxed.”
